5 reasons we wish we were a Scandinavian baby

This month we are excited to partner with Neutral Sensitive Skin, a new brand for you and your family offering skincare, baby care and laundry ranges.  Together with Neutral, we will be bringing you four special mush guides. To kickstart our partnership, we thought we would take a trip to the Nordics as an ode to Neutral’s heritage…

It’s not often we long to be a ruddy-cheeked six month old called Lars, but when we come to think of it, Scandi babies have a pretty good deal. Let’s look at the evidence…

1. We’d get to spend more time with our mummy and daddy

Shared parental started in Sweden in 1974, and yet it took until 2015 for the concept to hit the UK. World’s slowest ferry journey or what? In general, the Nordic nations have some of the best maternity and paternity policies in the world – in Sweden, for instance, parents get 480 days of leave which they have eight years to divvy up as they choose, and in Denmark it’s a whole year on full salary. Ever feel like you got knocked-up in the wrong country? And is there a dating app on the market solely featuring strapping Scandi men? Asking for a friend, obvs, we’re taken… for now.

2. We’d look really cool

Mainstream baby clothes retailers in the UK are still largely hung up on girls being pink princesses who adore kittens and boys being blue rascals who are fixated with transport. Scandi baby clothes, however, are beyond cool – bold colours, stylish unisex prints, organic fabrics (which wash beautifully in our Neutral 0% Colour Liquid Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener) and not a tacky slogan in sight... sigh. Brands to look out for include Smafolk, Maxomorra and Tiny Trolls Of Norway, but there are zillions of them, many of which are now sold by UK online retailers. We only wish they came in our size too…

3. We’d have awesome skin

While British cosmetics often blind us with science and miracle but quite possibly imaginary ingredients, once again our Scandi pals know that keeping it simple is best – the Neutral 0% sensitive skin care range was created in Denmark more than 25 years ago and contains no unnecessary perfumes, parabens or colourants. Perfect for babies with sensitive skin – and the rest of the family, too.

4. Our bedroom would be so Pinterest

Our imaginary Scandi infant self sleeps in a beautiful bright and airy room – perhaps in a log cabin – and has mounds and mounds of LEGO, all neatly filed in our array of contemporary but retro-inspired stylish storage solutions. There’s a mountain range lovingly stenciled on our wall and our pristine cot is lined with a hygge-tastic luxury blanket. Bliss.

5. We’d get free stuff just for existing

In Finland, all expectant mums get a state-issued baby box, full of babygros, nappies and other newborn essentials, as well as doubling up as a Moses basket, complete with mattress. And it’s not just a gimmick - the system has been credited with drastically reducing the number of SIDS deaths in Finland. Incredibly, the scheme’s been going for 75 years but is finally set to be trialed in the UK soon. Yesssss, bring on all the stuff.

New in the UK and available exclusively online Neutral 0% offers products across skin, face, baby and household ranges (laundry detergent, dish soap, etc.) that are specially designed for sensitive skin.  All our products are dermatologically tested and contain no unnecessary perfumes, parabens or colourants.  Neutral 0% was born in Denmark and for more than 25 years we have worked with the Danish Asthma and Allergy Association to create products that are gentle on you and your families skin.  Explore all our products at www.neutralsensitiveskin.com
